STRESS AND PRALHAD: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
PRAAYENA DEVA MUNAYAH SWAVIMUKTIKAMAA
MAAUNAM CHARANTI VIJANENA PARAARTHA NISHTHAA

Oh Lord, in general, most of the great saints, sages, yogis and rishis renounce the world, live in seclusion and observe silence in search of salvation/liberation for themselves.
Since you are the only savior for my billions of brothers; and since they can not get salvation from anywhere else (in case I do not seek it from you for them), hence I do not want to be a mean person to seek liberation for myself alone.
So says the great Pralhada as is articulated in SHRIMAT BHAGAVATAM.
The stress (and conceptual stress) is a universal phenomenon. Billions suffer from it. The stress is multifactorial and has to be managed in a holistic way. This is possible if the enlightened and selfless experts and world leaders with holistic perspective; come together and work in coordination.
Thus few can (and not all) understand and manage it; even for the others. It is their privilege and DHARMA to help others in managing the stress. Individual liberation and individual stress management in isolation; is not possible as it is intricately and inseparably bound with the liberation and stress management of billions others!
This essence of Total Stress Management was exemplified in the lives of the great mythological figures Bhagiratha and Prometheus.
Bhagiratha brought the river Ganga (hence also called Bhagirathi) from heaven to the earth and Prometheus stole fire from Zeus to save the mankind.

NAMASMARAN AND INTROSPECTION: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
We know that; threat to survival, reduced availability of oxygen, toxic gases, suffocation (asphyxia), hunger, thirst, sexual abstinence, loss of habitat, loss of herd, denial of parental instinct, restriction of movement, deaths, diseases, lack of shelter, clothes, education, lack of communication, lack of love, company and care, intellectual confusion and bigotry; causes stress. There are such thousands of stressors.
All these stressors have to be addressed holistically; with the PURPOSE to enable maximum inhabitants of the world to:
1. Study and practice conscious evolutionary transformation,
2. And realize our omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent (immortal and eternal) self and the cosmic romance of being one with the essence of the universe, which is the ultimate culmination of all aspirations, and in turn,
3. Address the stressors in the universe; holistically.
Can we introspect and find:
A. Are we ignorant, oblivious or irresponsible about the stressors; and hence callously preach; NAMASMARAN or other spiritual pursuits, without reference to the stressors?
B. Are we; while trying to address the stressors inside and outside; lost in them; and have forgotten the very PURPOSE of addressing the stressors holistically?

STRESS AND JUSTICE: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
Some times; we feel that God would do justice; and at other times; we should do justice. But in both cases; the feeling is impulsive, ad-hoc and superficial; and the approach is; fragmented and ineffective. The modus operandi and the details are also not clear.
With NAMASMARAN we go deeper within ourselves; and find; that we are potentially as sinful or virtuous; as anyone else in the world; and the measures for bringing the people to justice; are equally and urgently required for us. So; we stop being judgmental and impatient to bring the others to justice.
Instead; we practice NAMASMARAN and assert our true self; so as to evolve and share; globally beneficial perspective, plans and policies.
This is how; we stop waiting helplessly and desperately for imaginary ‘God’ or for the ‘others’ to do justice; and concur with our true self; in engendering ‘justice’ in the world; and also conquer ‘our stress’! Our beliefs of “God bringing about justice” stupefy us; and our belief of “we” bringing about justice”; intoxicates us with arrogance, indiscriminate violence or sterile excitement.

TRIUMPH OVER TIME: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
Physical pain, vertigo, nausea, physical deprivation, instinctual deprivation, emotional deprivation, intellectual turmoil and many such things are associated with suffering. Every minute lived in suffering; leads to a reverberating activity in brain. Hence there is agony of the past incidence and inexplicable anxiety and fear of similar suffering in future.
When saints advise us to be satisfied in a given situation, it actually means; we should learn to conquer the circumstances and not allow them to take toll of ourselves” and NOT be submissive or passive as is often interpreted!
The saints knew that this is very difficult; almost impossible; because the factors producing pain are very fast and work in the subconscious realm; like a guerilla attack! To overcome this attack one has to become subtler than “the process of perception of time”! But this is not possible by mere thinking! Hence the saints advise us to recite, chant and/or remember the name of God. This activity is called NAMASMARAN.
What does NAMASMARAN do?
NAMASMARAN leads to a kind of enhanced and integrated encephalization. Grieves of past, concerns about the present and the worries of the future; are strong; because of the autonomic nervous and limbic system involvement, are overcome; through integrated encephalization. This leads to the conquest over “the process of perception of time” and eradication of ‘dragging sensation’ in one’s life.
NAMASMARAN gradually transforms us from our petty and individualistic perspective into cosmic one. This evolves the ability to “witness”; the intense ‘personal and subjective’ experiences of the past, the events of present and the apprehensions above the future; from the fourth dimension! This is being selfless and objective and is often associated with premonition, clairvoyance and so on and elevation of the ‘individual life and vision’ above the physiological limitations of the three dimensions. This is ‘triumph over time’!
The concrete and objective experience of being one with the universe and transtemporal cosmic essence of life; is explicit in the 10th and 11th chapters of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita!
Since this hypothesis can not be verified by using animals, it has to be experimented by large number of human volunteers; spread all over the world, from different racial and religious backgrounds; and for sufficient time with sincere involvement; before it can be generalized.

STRESS, SPIRITUALISM AND MATERIALISM: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

STRESS, SPIRITUALISM AND MATERIALISM: DR. SHRINIWAS
KASHALIKAR
Many of us, who are ‘spiritualists’ often focus on freedom from the cycle of birth and death, liberation and emancipation, without probably knowing what that means! Their religious celebrations and festivals are more ritualistic, mechanical (and often; commercial or mercenary) and hardly reflect their innate aspiration and/or fervor of realizing the absolute truth! These are rendered into cheap entertainments.
The others; not as much ‘spiritualists’; often called ‘materialists’ feel uneasy in these activities. They; resent the alienation of these activities from the stark realities of life. They think; all this is escapism and waste of time. They think such activities distract us from the real problems of life; and produce and aggravate stress!
But, they have a fragmented or sectarian approach and superficial solutions to the problems. They also remain hollow in as much as they do not give the dimension of self realization or immortality to our life!
Many of us, who are ‘spiritualists’, think that devotion to God is answer to all social evils. But knowingly or unknowingly they never think so about their personal gains. They are humble and lean, but don’t grow from within.
The others amongst us, who are materialists, are often deeply concerned about social problems; and are broad-minded. But their views and activities are subjective and egoistic and so they are sectarian and superficial.
Another conflict amongst spiritual as well as material people is that of asceticism/austerity vs. indulgence. Some vehemently insist on fanatic austerity; while the others take pride in brazen indulgence! These cannot offer holistic solutions and Total Stress Management (simultaneous blossoming of an individual and society), which spring from the practice of NAMASMARAN; as explained (at least to some extent) in my books (available for free download on internet)!
