STRESS AND SELFISHNESS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
If we study the Total Stress Management and various philosophical and spiritual issues related to it; such as selfishness; then we face following questions!
1. Do we understand the difference between “self” and “Self”?
2. Do we practice; Self exploration, Self introspection?
3. Do we understand the signals of Self; constituting the agony or the satisfaction; generated from deep within?
4. Do we spend time to understand the propulsive, inspiring or motivating impulses or signals; coming from the Self i.e. from within?
5. Do we practice; Self expression, Self assertion; and Self satisfaction?
6. Don’t we suffer from Self pity, Self abnegation, Self ridicule, Self deride and Self guilt?
The answers to these questions are:
1. We do not understand the nature of Self.
One of the most important and logical proof of this is that; most of the times; we are merely elated or depressed; but never happy. We never experience fulfillment. Our life may be apparently beneficial or troublesome to others. But it lacks the element of simultaneous blossoming of one and all, which is possible only through “True Selfishness (not petty selfishness)”
2. We do not practice Self exploration and Self introspection adequately.
3. We do not understand the signals from within; as we do not introspect Self; adequately.
4. We do not express or assert our Self adequately and are not satisfied adequately.
5. We suffer from Self pity, Self abnegation, Self ridicule, Self deride and Self guilt.
This is because;
Our education system is heavily influenced and governed by the Self ignorance, fragmented, superficial and petty perspective, reductionist and sectarian thinking, misguided motives, and inappropriate aims, objectives, ideals and protocols! This leads to individualistic but anti Self pursuits. Our whole life is drained in the anti Self petty pursuits instead of Self exploration, Self knowledge, Self realization and Self expression.
Besides education system and the curriculums, all the fields of life such as laws, health care, agriculture, industry, trade, entertainment and even our belief systems, which constitute informal and extracurricular education; are also; heavily vitiated by the ignorance of Self. Hence our curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular education is unable to train and inspire us for Self exploration and Self realization.
Hence we do not know and are not on the way to explore, understand and realize the true Self. We are guided by darkness and grope in the wilderness of degradation, degeneration and destruction of ourselves and the others; and hence in true sense; we are Self less or Self traitors or suicidal!
We can be Selfish; involving simultaneous blossoming of one and all; through NAMASMARAN; the vital heritage and crucial legacy; that has come from the seers; through millennia. This valuable treasure has come to us in a noble and sublime manner; through supertransactions; beyond commercial, professional and charitable perspectives!
Total Stress Management (the core of which is NAMASMARAN); is being truly Selfish; through Self introspection, Self exploration, Self knowledge, Self realization, Self assertion and Self expression by conquering the petty self within us and within the society we live in!

STRESS, AND OUR CONVICTIONS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

STRESS, AND OUR CONVICTIONS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
There are many natural divisions and they exist complementarily. Sun and Moon, Light and Dark, Life and Death, Fusion and Fission are not contradictory and not mutually contra posed.
The “opposites” in nature; such as male and female; are natural, or rather celestial poetry and heavenly songs! They are not opposites or enemies (as projected by some) to hate or kill each other, but to synergize, potentiate; and mutually blossom each other.
This understanding and appreciation is the hallmark of common welfare!
But the unmanageable STRESS of sectarian bigotry and fanaticism; is produced by the interpretation of natural divisions; in an intellectually lopsided and wrong manner; and with petty, mean, sectarian and vicious feelings; and/or vested interests.
The proponents of these discriminations; knowingly or unknowingly work towards the disintegration and deterioration of every one; including themselves! Their conceptual and intellectual bigotry, darkness of ignorance, prejudices, grudges, hatred, vengeance, vindictiveness and malice are so powerful; that all they are extremely or rather fanatically committed, united and dedicated. They exemplify enormous force, courage and conviction; and are ready to spend any amount of money and suffer to any extent if required, for achieving their goals. Further; they are so frantic that they are ready to kill themselves and kill others; irresponsibly, inadvertently, callously, unethically and indiscriminately.
But those; working towards the welfare of mankind; seem to lack this force, fervor, frenzy, courage of conviction, unity and dedication. They hesitate to spend even pittance and take even minor most risk! Can NAMASMARAN consolidate, boost, and empower us; to work with force, courage, conviction, unity and dedication; towards; blossoming of one and all; so that we can conquer the STRESS of sectarian bigotry and fanaticism? We have to verify by practice!

STRESS, SELFISHNESS AND SELFLESSNESS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

STRESS, SELFISHNESS AND SELFLESSNESS: DR. SHRINIWAS
KASHALIKAR
One of the major causes of STRESS; is conflict of values also called value crisis. One such conflict is between selfishness and selflessness. Let us resolve this conflict and conquer the STERSS!
The plant and animal life is apparently almost free from choices and hence almost free from such conflicts and the STRESS! We are however; evolved and “free” to make choices on the one hand; and are “trapped” in the conflicts of choices; on the other!
We need oxygen, water, food, protection, nursing, shelter, clothes, education, entertainment, pampering and so on!
Gradually our “needs” begin to get converted into “wants”! We start “wanting” better food, better protection, better nursing, better shelter, better clothes, better entertainment, more pampering and so on!
Soon, all these “wants” necessitate the physical, political and monetary power and thus “craving” for power is produced in us! The “craving” leads to all our actions to fulfill the “craving” irrespective of; or rather at the cost of others!
Strange it may appear, but; even if every craving of ours is fulfilled, we are still unsatisfied!
Barring the period of infancy, the different conflicting choices begin to hover around and produce STRESS and erosion!
Satisfaction of physiological needs, instincts, emotions, thoughts and behavior (selfishness) are influenced variably by ethics, rules, regulations, laws, conventions, traditions, religious precepts, commandments (selflessness)!
They create a conflict; “Whether to satisfy our interests or not?”! In other words; “should we be selfish or selfless? This causes STRESS!
The STRESS; is especially marked; because, neither can we; revert back to animal behavior and escape from the conflict; nor can we cope with the precepts of selflessness!
How to resolve this conflict?
As infants we are selfish (very happy) in suckling and as mothers we are selfless (very happy) in breast feeding! Aren’t selfishness and selflessness natural, complementary and inseparable parts of our life?
Hence; even if our cravings, wants and even needs are fulfilled (selfishness); the subtle desires that we should be heard, loved, respected, admired, cared for, obeyed served and so on; still remain active! Alternatively suppression of our needs, wants, desires, and cravings appears incompatible with life. Thus; in absence of satisfying the needs from the early childhood, we would not be alive and there would be no progeny to continue the species.
We can tally this with our experience of being “selfish” and the feeling of guilt for not having given a donation; and our experience of being “selfless” and the feeling of being cheated by giving away donations! We can assess our feeling of guilt; of selfishness (having denied our services to needy poor); and our feeling of hurt due to insulting treatment; of selflessness (having taught or treated free of cost).
Thus mere fulfilling (selfishness) or mere suppression or denial (selflessness); of our needs, wants, desires or cravings; is not a solution. Hence there must be other way out. Thus; what is required; is to evolve our selfishness as well as our selflessness!
Most of the times even if the others consider us selfish or selfless; we are actually not evolved in terms of selfishness or selflessness! We are only foolish; being dragged into ego-born compulsions; which are either called ‘selfish’ or ‘selfless’!
One way of conquering the STRESS of this strenuous and tardy transition from selfishness and selflessness; to enlightened objective wisdom; is; the practice and propagation of NAMASMARAN. Practice; because “the love of NAMASMARAN”; is not as “strongly physiologically inbuilt” as the “compulsions of acquiring; and impulses of sacrificing” and propagate; because; we want to defeat the propaganda and forces (inside and outside); that hinder the culmination of selfishness and selflessness; into cosmic consciousness with its benevolent holistic expression!

TEMPLES AND SOCIETY: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

TEMPLES AND SOCIETY: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
The stress is ubiquitous. But it becomes increasingly troublesome if we are sensitive. It becomes more irritating if we begin to understand solutions and can not implement them. However it becomes extremely and unbearably agonizing when millions of people seem to understand the solutions and agree; and yet nothing seems to work!
The immediate issue is that of the condition of thousands of temples in India, which are revered for millennia; as the sacrosanct seats of the fountainhead of the absolute consciousness, conscience and enlightenment of God!
Today; these temples all over India with few exceptions; are surrounded by filth, garbage, pathetic looking beggars, extremely undisciplined crowding, traffic jams, badly maintained roads, animal sacrifices, harrowing delusions and superstitions and so on. Many priests add to the misery of devotees by fostering their blind beliefs by psyching them; and threatening them to extract maximum offerings and money.
In addition; there are reports of indulgence in marihuana, sexual abuse, cheating, monitory corruption, involvement of goons, interference of partisan politicians with vested interests; and so on.
This scenario of many temples has lead to severe and almost fatal blow on our feelings; whether we visit these temples as travelers, tourists, visitors, pilgrims or devotees; but especially so; if we are Hindus. We begin to get shattered in terms of our faith in our ancestors, our religion, our traditions, our customs and most importantly; in ourselves! Our self esteem begins to get dwindled.
These temples begin to appear as serious social diseases rather than healing centers! They begin to appear as the centers of deceptive escapism and sterile solace.
These temples seem to have nothing to do with our life and the challenges we face every day. They seem neither to educate nor to empower us. They seem to provide no healing touch.
In spite of all this many of us harbor superstitions due to petty considerations of personal gains and/or fear of personal losses! As a result; many of us keep visiting these places passively and periodically.
Alternatively many of us lose all hope from these institutions and begin to resent, dislike or even loathe them.
What could be the solution?
We have to appreciate that; the individualistic pursuits and petty considerations have taken toll of the original ideas, concepts and functioning of temples. As a result, the centers of excellence in every possible way; which served to emancipate individuals and the society and emanated rejuvenating and revitalizing influence have become bereft of it all! They showered benevolence on the individuals visiting and participating in the temple activities (conducive to individual and global blossoming). But their status of being centers of transcendental evolution is lost. They are not even the caricatures of what they once were.
Today we find that no one involved in temple activities; studies, teaches and learns. No one works, produces and/or creates. Hence these temples have got converted into dead and economically helpless and parasitic institutions dependent on the mercy of government, politicians, donors and volunteers; most of who have ulterior motives. As a result; pseudo and hollow celebrations and devotional activities have become means of ugly show, despicable pomp, criminal wastage, obscene vulgarity, offensive exhibition, bullying advertisements and cheap propaganda, through unpardonable extortions.
The solution to this pathetic situation; is to re-explore, rejuvenate and reestablish the glorious functioning of our temples in all their vitality, vigor, richness and their benevolence. Second; we should promote holistic reunification of health care, education, agriculture, horticulture, cow rearing; eco friendly industries; in cooperation with local governments. But we get inspiration and motivation for this through; NAMASMARAN!

SPIRITUALISM, MATERIALISM AND NAMASMARAN: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

SPIRITUALISM, MATERIALISM AND NAMASMARAN: DR. SHRINIWAS
KASHALIKAR
Why are many places of pilgrimage; full of activities responsible for the downfall of mankind?
Why can’t the spiritual masters change these places for better; through their devotees, local administrative heads and/or the political leaders?
Why are these places immune to spiritual rejuvenation and or revitalization in view of the socioeconomic and political misery?
Why do we find people in pitiable life conditions in most respects?
The answer to all these questions; is:
There is a split or chasm; between the so called spiritualism and so called materialism!
The saints and their shrines provide the infinite enlightenment and empowerment.
But we are intoxicated by petty selfishness to such an extent that we visit the places of pilgrimage in a parasitic mindset. We visit these shrines and temples with beggarly mentality. We approach these abodes merely for trivial gains for our own selves or our families. We see social evils; but merely criticize them cynically and callously! We are ourselves degenrerated!
This is because; we have forgotten SWADHARMA, in which there are no separate compartments like; spiritual and material. It is holistic. SWADHARMA is holistic renaissance. We have forgotten pitru dharma, matru dharma, putra dharma, acharya dharma, kula dharma, raja dharma (duties or privileges; assigned to father, mother, son, teacher, pedigree, ruler; respectively) for individual and global blossoming.
The answers to all our questions are in NAMASMARAN.
NAMASMARAN empowers, enlivens and enables us to get reoriented to and explore the SWADHARMA, which is beyond the prevalent ideologies, which make us arrogant on the one hand and meek on the other. It enables us to evolve holistic perspective, policies, plans, programs; and implement them; in all the walks of life; including the places of pilgrimages and bring about individual and universal blossoming.
