As there is the commencement of an Era of super-specialization and specialization ,there is a dearth of qualified general practitioners who are practising in big cities and even small towns. The qualified G.P’s and the concept of general practice are like an ‘endangered species’ which is almost vanishing from the Medical Arena.
The general practitioner is the backbone of the medical field and the first level diagnosis and screening of the patient and disease is done by a G.P., and this was the practice of the time immemorial which has been replaced by the mushrooming specialist and super-specialist centres where the patient goes by himself after self diagnosing his disease and with problems instead of going to his/her G.P. first.
A general practitioner can screen most of the underlying disease pertaining to C.V.S(heart) Respiratory(lung),B.P and.Infectious diseases of the body along with some chronic problems pertaining to body and mind in both young ,old and child patients and a good G.P. can treat the disease very effectively with medications and at a low cost.Time has come for awareness amongst the Indian masses and not so rich poor Indian patients who do not always need a specialist or a super-specialist for the treatment of the disease when the treatment by a Family Physician, or a General Practitioner may suffice.
