DOCTORS are undoubtedly under stress .the students who are preparing for NEET or PMT are definitely under tension as seats are limited but aspirants are millions. They start prparing for this exam just after class X as get themselves admitted to many coaching centres for success and few attemps few times to get it.While doing MBBS they have to pass so many interal and external examination from ward clearing to Prop clearance University examinations with so many subjects that whole day and night books, ward teachings and exam tension are companions.

After passing MBBS until get a seat in PG that too in clinical subject is the choice of most budding doctors but hardly few can get through it but those cant succed cant practice in market as there is tough competitions of senior specialist colleagues even in small towns and suburbs beside these they face tough competitions from so called quack practitioners practising as RMP or practising Allopathy being homeo, ayurvedic, siddha or rekkii or magnet therapy expert .Beside this medicines are sold by pharmacists openly in medical shops with or without degree of pharmacy.

Even after PG ,super specialisation is always of choice, and after superspecialisation senior residency is done to acquire more experiences and till this about 30-35 yrs of age is lost and even after they have to move pillar to post a good job with good salary as given to techie or managment expert. Therefore stress, anxiety, apprehension, tension, fear are part and parcel of a Medico in present day and it some times lead to many neuro psychiatric imbalances which some time terminates into sucides too.

.The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) administration has waken up to the mental trauma of its doctors. Following MAIL TODAYS report that five AIIMS doctors were admitted to psychiatric ward due to work pressure, the hospital has started 24-hour helpline numbers to address their issues. Lets Talk, a helpline portal, has been launched by AIIMS psychiatric division and resident doctors association so that doctors can share their problems.

This helpline will be managed by a senior resident doctor who will forward the grievances of medical students to the senior faculty of the department.Dr Pratap Sharan, professor of psychiatric unit at AIIMS, told MAIL TODAY, LetsTalk, helpline portal will work on four components for AIIMS students to live a positive life. First, we have mentorship programme in every department where students can share their problems to the mentors.

Second, we have workshops for undergraduates and graduates on how to have a balanced life with positive approach. Third, is counselling services which also include ehelpline. We would be counselling to our students by face to face interaction. Dr Sharan added that AIIMS is in the process of hiring dedicated five psychologists to look after students on query on mental health illness.

It is important to note that doctors at AIIMS are reeling with unbearable stress levels and mental troubles and in the past many have allegedly tried to attempt suicides.

Will other hospitals and medical colleges run same type of Distress centres too to reduce stress among Doctors working around them?
