WHY YOUNG INDIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS COMMITS SUCIDE

Sucide is always a painful for everybody and curse for a society, community ,nation and for whole humanity as this step is a last step where a human surrenders for death ending life which is never accepted by any one suffering from terminalcancer to any post blastic seriuosly injured person or a person with coma for months, neith society nor law accepts it so every sucider attepti is punished by law and society.
But it is a fact that a 25 yrs MEDICAL DOCTOR came in front of a running goods train in Ahmedabad while a second year MBBS student was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel room at a premier medical institute in New Delhi. So, what has happened to those medicos, who had sworn to save lives suddenly taking their own?similiarly at knapur and at AIIMS few motns back another medico hanged .
So many farmers due to poverty commit sucide in Maharasthra ,Andhra and Bengal, their agony and pity is appreciated and reform are advised on media and social platform but if DOCTOR then society usually criticises as they donot know the following facts:-------
Why a doctor — who might be aware, what he was suffering from and what are the treatments available — never seek help?Medical institutes and hospitals exacerbate the pressures on such studious students for very vast course and less time to complete every subject like ANATOMY,PHYSIOLOGY,BIOCHEMISTRY,PHARMA,PSM in short period of 1 yr and the 5 more subject next 1.5 yrs and rest 5 in 1.5 yrs ,student canot think any thing except study so they became book worm and even after that not passing in so amny internal assessements and term examinaions completely shatter them and for fear of their failure, bad name to their parents and friends they choose to end their life.
MCI should make such curiculum so that it became student friendly and less stressful but WHO LISTENS? WHO CARES/ ONCE IN MEDICAL COLLEGE THEY ARE BONDED SERVANTS AND LABORS PUT HEAVY PRESSURE,SUCH DONCKEY WILL BEAR IT AS THEY ARE SO CALLED STUDIOUS AND BRILLIANT IN CAREER. At these premier institutes, students from a variety of caste, class and cultural backgrounds converge. And at times, they fell prey under greater pressure and loneliness. They need to adjust, but the desire to be “cool” does not easily allow thoughts of possible failure. And what is worse is that Indian families generally do not welcome back defeated or recalcitrant students as much as they do not welcome back daughters after a failed marriage. According to them, they have invested too much in both.
The problem today is most prevalent among medical students and resident doctors confined to the hierarchical and competitive structure of government medical colleges and hospitals, according to Dr Sumit Goyal, a private medical practitioner. “Resident doctors are the backbone of any hospital; they bear the pressure of trauma care to outpatient department. However, most of them get stuck in their respective department and work at a stretch for more than 72 hours. They don’t even have the time to change their dress. And they also have to prepare for their specialization by following their routine jobs, which is endless,” said Dr Goyal.Situation in private medical college is even worse as their parents have paid in lakhs and most such medical college doesnot have good infrastructure of teaching, they get recognition by bribing, instead of good education and curiculum and study they sqeeze students a high fee of books, exam fee and even want money for leaking question papers and passing them out,HOW A STUDENT CAN PAY MORE AND IF EVERY PASSING RQUIRED MONEY THEN WHY HE/SHE WILL READ.BUT corrupt GOVERNMENT/MCI hardly cares for it ,every time their quota of seats for MBBS or PG SEATS ARE INCREASED. POLICE, ADMINISTRATION,POLITICIAN,BUREAUCRATS AND JUDICIARY ALL are silent as hugh money is paid BUT POOR STUDENT SUCCUMB TO SUCIDE,WILL HEALTH MINISTRY LISTEN OR ANY HUMANATARIAN NGO WILL CONDUCT AN ENQUIRY WHY IT HAPPENED AND WILL TRY TO STOP IT IN FUTURE.

“It is a fact that Indian medicos are facing tough time,” said Dr M C Gupta, a New Delhi based medico-legal expert. According to him, there are very less number of government jobs available for doctors and there is no campus placement for medical students not even at premier medical institutes like AIIMS. And even when the doctors some how manage to get jobs in private hospitals and nursing homes they don’t get a decent remuneration. These all add up to the stress level of young doctors.
A young doctor burst out with his problems. “After a regressive study, when we come out with a degree we don’t have proper jobs; some lucky folks get a chance to work with prestigious hospitals and others are pushed for rigorous treatment in remote areas, pushed to hard work but with no remuneration on time, having salary backlogs for more than three months in government run dispensary,” he said requesting not to be named. “After 10 years of study, we are getting only Rs 20,000 as perks, yes we are under great depression,” he added.
According to doctors, the postgraduation study is the toughest period in a medical student’s life, when he has to study hard while working tirelessly in a hospital.IF they donot acquire PG ,MBBS is of no value as society hardly recognises it,ALL PG SEATS ARE OPENLY SOLD TO GET A CHANCE IN PG IS TO GET GOLD OR DIAMONS LOTTERY as after MD/MS EVEN DEPRESSION DOESNOT GO AS for good name ,ffame and job a superspecialisation is needed MCH AND DM is required so frustation is continued and stress is on as limited super specialisation seats in country.A study by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, as far back as 1996, showed that 40 per cent of its senior doctors in emergency medicine faced stress levels within the warning zone. An institute that treats thousands of patients everyday clearly needs to pay attention to its own stressed and harassed doctors. “Evidently, shortage of manpower in a hospital leads to overburden the residents, who are under tremendous pressure from academic seniors. The doctors consider themselves as a caged parrot.
Even after passing MBBS no jobs for these doctors by government although our helath minister always crey no doctor in village but his PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OR state COMMISSION recruits doctors rarely so many are un employed, they have to work as unrecognised person in big five star private hospitals whcih pay less and squeeze more.As private practice is very hard, society even not accept new MD OR MS doctor in B OR C TYPE OF CITIES OR TOWN what to talk of METROS where even DM OR MCH CANNOT DEVELOP THEIR PRACTICE due to tough competitions as FIVE STAR HOSPITALS HAVE OPEN and most persons living there have HEALTH POLICY AND EVERY INSURED WANT TO GO TO SUCH SUPERSPECIALISED CENTRES FOR TREATMENT SO THEY HAVE TO JOIN SUCH HOSPITAL WHO ERN HUGH PAYING DOCTORS A SIMPLE PERCENTAGE.EVEN NEWLY PASSED DM.MCH OR MD./MS OFTEN GET JOB OF RESIDENT IN MERE 5 DIGIT SALARY- A STUDY OF 10-15 YRS A SMALL PAYMENT WHERE IMA AND IITS ,IAS,IPS,IRS start earning in lakhs after 3-5 yrs of study only.
Therefore, most doctors donot like that their son and daughter should be doctor as even for foreign assignment doctors are hardly accepted by UK,USA etc.
So our Government should now care for DOCTORS otherwise good students will leave this branch and should encourage them for higher studies and easy placements ,i job available in rural setup where common facilities of living are lifted up DOCTORS will go and live there, even today who gets permanant job usually live in rural area but for children schooling, comes to nearby town so if good connectivity to nearby towns done and good school, markets come up many docots will be there so to increase number of doctors Government should make EVERY PRIVATE MEDICAL COLLEGE TO ABIDE NEET EXAMINATIONS AND MAKE THEIR ENTRANCE EXAM COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT so that poor students can read too.
IF GOVERNMENT WANTS MORE AND MORE STUDENTS BECOME DOCTOR THEN RUN MORE MEDICAL COLLEGES,REMOVE BACKDOOR DONATIONS AND ADMIT MORE STUDENTS IN PRIVATE COLLEGES BY FAIR EXAMINATION BOTH IN MBBS AND PG ,GIVE JOBS TO DOCTOR,CAMPUS INTERVIEW LIKE MBA AND IITS AND ENGINEERS ,GOOD LIVING AT RURAL AREAS ND PUT COMMISSIONS AND ENQUIRY WHY MEDICOS COMMIT SUCIDE AND ACCEPT RECOMMENDATION OF SUCH COMMISSIONS TO PREVENT SUCH SUCIDES IN FUTURE.
IN LAST AS SENIOR DOCTOR I REQUEST ALL YOUNG DOCTORS NEVER THINK FOR SUCH ACT AS SUCH DIFFICULTIES CANNOT BENT YOU OR YOUR CARRIER ,FIGHT AND SUCCESS MUST COMES TO YOU IT MAY BE LATE BUT FUTURE IS YOURS,YOU ARE ACCEPTED BY EVERY ONE IN THE NAME OF 'SECOND GOD ' THE WORD NOT USED FOR ANY BODY ELSE,BE PROUD TO BE A DOCTOR !
