STRESS AND POLITICS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
STRESS AND POLITICS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

The news on TV showing; significant increase in mental illness (STRESS) due to poverty, unemployment and cut throat competition; confirms that; we can never succeed in Total Stress Management; without addressing the socioeconomic, political and other issues influencing our lives.

We may or may not join a particular political party, an organization, or a movement; but we have to firmly assert our conscience. If we don’t, then we will suffer from guilt conscience; in passing on this legacy to the posterity!

For Total Stress Management; the world politics ought to express the cosmic consciousness (converging into global consensus) in the form of the perspective, policy making, plans and programs for individual and global blossoming.

People with such perception, conviction and motivation ought to come together and evolve the pragmatic aspects of actual means and modalities; of policies, plans and programs.

At present also this is happening, but in a rather imperfect, immature, inaccurate, insufficient, inadequate, feeble and slow and ineffective manner.

We can verify; if this can be expedited by empowering common the deep seated urge for self realization and motivation for individual and global blossoming; in billions of living beings; through NAMASMARAN.

RATIONALE OF TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
RATIONALE OF TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

I never knew anything about the STRESS; operating right from conception; at conscious, subconscious and unconscious levels; both inside and outside; and the holistic ways to conquer it!

Now; I know Total Stress Management, which includes holistic perspective, policymaking, plans and programs; and their implementation.

But still; sometimes I am cynical about the vision and the contents of Total Stress Management and think that present situation can NEVER change in any way.

I ask myself; “Can anybody be happy even if all the material pleasures are granted? Are not all the material pleasures useless in terms of giving total fulfillment of life? Is not the body that enjoys it also temporary? Are we not unhappy merely because of ego? Are we not unhappy because of the state of our mind? What is the use of pursuing material pleasures? What is the use of Total Stress Management; when all is vanity? Isn’t the world UNCHANGED; even when so many people toiled for its improvement; in the past? Isn’t such effort useless and futile? What is the use of it; if we have ‘to leave everything’; when we die?”

It is better to enjoy my life as it comes; ‘without bothering’ about society.

But; how much ever I try; I cannot enjoy my life without bothering about the others! It not possible for me!

Learning and practice of Total Stress Management is inseparable from life. How much ever I try; I cannot choose to be a passive victim or active cause of the STRESS. I cannot keep proclaiming; like snoring in slumber; or shouting in delirium; that; “I am happy and ecstatic; even as the millions others are in misery”!

Alternatively; sometimes I wonder; if increase in inner strength; irrespective of the extent of external environmental stress; can reduce the ratio; “external pressure/resilience” and conquer the stress!

I tried this seriously. But since the external stress and pressures; are inseparable from my inner core; it is not possible for me to increase the “inner strength”; by trying to escape from the “stress in external environment”!

I can increase the inner strength (and satisfaction); only by conquering (through holistic perspective, policies, plans, programs and their implementation); all the STRESSORS simultaneously! This is Total Stress Management or superliving (the core of which is NAMASMARAN) and is like oxygen. Can I be cynical and escapist about breathing oxygen?

STRESS: TUG OF WAR: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
STRESS AND TUG OF WAR: DR SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

Some say that if an individual improves then gradually the family, the society and the whole universe would improve. Hence individual purification is most important.

Some others say that if we improve the system, then automatically the whole universe, mankind, society and the individual would improve. Hence the purification of the system is most important.

This is really a tug of war!

The individual can be “purified” if the system improves; because he/she lives within the system and in accordance with the system. Conversely the system has would get “purified”, only if the individuals controlling the system; are “purified”.

Infinite purification or shall we say blossoming; of an individual in spite of the system is theoretically possible but only in exceptional individuals. Conversely; purification of a system irrespective of the individuals; is theoretically possible only if there is an exceptionally rare leadership at the helm of the affairs.

Since these are remote possibilities; today the pursuit of individual blossoming has to be combined with universal blossoming through simultaneous process of individual and systemic purification; or shall we say rectification.

Thus we have to set the goal of immortal bliss for an individual on the one hand; and simultaneously make policies, plans and programs so as to fulfill all the physiological needs of all the age groups, races and religions; throughout the day, seasons and life!

This is called total stress management, total well being, holistic health, superliving or holistic renaissance. This simultaneous process of individual and universal blossoming can be realized by helping ourselves and the others; to orient to the true selves. This is akin to; the focus of all the instrumentalists and vocalists; on the master of orchestra; where soul stirring harmony, melody and rhythm; are produced!

We can help ourselves and the others to such orientation to the true selves; through the practice and propagation of NAMASMARAN. In absence of this; the individual emancipation is bound to remain a self deception; and the universal welfare; an unending mirage!

STRESS AND CAREER: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
STRESS AND CAREER: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

All the careers (educational courses and curriculums) ought to contribute to the basic theme; “simultaneous blossoming of an individual and the universe” and their success has to be evaluated on the basis of such contribution.

Secondly; they have to empower us spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, technically and economically.
The last point “economically” implies; that the careers must be productive and the students would contribute to the institutions through productive activity.

Hence; thirdly; there should be no conditions, tests and other obstructions; such as donations, castes etc. for the admission. It should be clear; that in such situation; there would be no problem; even if more students are admitted; as there would be proportionate increase in the revenue required for additional facilities such as laboratories, workshops and teachers.

Since every career would ensure economically sound position in society (and not dependence on service); there would not be obsessive demands for certain careers and hence; this would bring an end to rabid competition, wastage of money, conflicts, corruption and violence, which is; what is happening today.

If the careers are evolved as above; then a consensus would evolve; that individual progress cannot be separated from social progress, spiritual progress cannot be isolated from material progress; and progress as such; must imply simultaneous blossoming of an individual and society and NOT mere increase in luxury items such as mobiles or cars.

We can evolve such careers, which would eradicate many of the causes of stress; if we learn to understand and follow our inner voice! We have the golden opportunity to verify whether this is possible; through the universal practice of NAMASMARAN!

UNITY AND STRESS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
UNITY AND STRESS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

Uniting, organizing and working together are natural in young age. In fact; they are important steps in stress management! Naturally; like anyone else; I also was keen to be involved in uniting in organizations and being involved in movements.

I used to read that mass movements; based on issues; eventually lead to building of social and political organizations; such as working class unions and political parties. It was said; that these organizations could then serve as instruments to bring about socioeconomic and political revolution.

Gradually it became clear that “the issues” are not simple. Sometimes they are of genuine and immediate pertinence, such as coercive land acquisition or rehabilitation. But I could not conceive a radical or a holistic solution; I was looking for; in these movements and organizations; though they were genuine and had definite role to play.

But quite often; the issues are too complex to permit taking of a side; that would satisfy my conscience e.g. reservation policy. Naturally; I could not be involved in any movements and organizations; in favor; or opposed to reservations.

There have been movements and organizations; for the welfare of a school, village, region, language, caste, religion; or other issues such as memorials, statues and philanthropic or charity activities.

Such activities attracted me for some time; but not for long. I was growing. I felt that; these ideas and activities were palliative and piecemeal solutions; while I was keen on a holistic and radical solution.

Even as hundreds of movements and organizations of different nature continued to work in their own way; a time came; when I realized that my SWADHARMA is to explore and realize the unity of universe, which is already a reality!

This realization; brought a new and fresh rejuvenation in my life! I got withdrawn from forming any new institution or organization; and got absorbed in the study, practice and propagation of Total Stress Management (the core of which is NAMASMARAN).

" 7 MYTHS ABOUT WATER "
7 Myths about water broken by scientific research-

1. Drinking water between meals is bad for digestion – This is one line that has been passed down from generation to generation. However, there is no scientific evidence to indicate that it will affect the digestive process. At the most, it will probably fill you up and reduce your appetite for dinner. But besides that, go ahead and enjoy a glass of water with every meal.

2. Drink 8 glasses a day for good health – Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is one of the most popular myths in circulation today, despite scientists saying that there is no clear correlation between good health and sipping on water all day. Doctors recommend drinking water only when you are thirsty!

3. Drink water, you can never have too much of a good thing! – Recent studies reveal that drinking too much water can in fact, be potentially harmful. Excessive water consumption is dangerous in that it can lower salt concentration in the body. Water intoxication, a life-threatening condition, occurs when there is dilution of blood sodium because the kidneys are over-worked, and unable to excrete the excess water as urine.

4. Water cleans out the body’s toxins – The toxins in our body are filtered out by the kidneys. And common myth says that drinking more water means clearing out the toxins. Wrong! In truth, drinking large amounts of water will actually reduce the kidneys’ ability to function as a filter

5. Drink water for healthy skin – It is widely believed that since our body’s composition is 60% water, drinking a lot of water will give you glowing skin. However, there is little evidence to support this idea. Healthy skin is a result of many things, including diet, weather, pollution and genetics.

6. Drinking water can aid weight loss – Water has been touted as the secret drug for all dieters. “Drink water and you’ll shed those pounds like magic.” This is hardly true; as we discussed, water will, at the most, fill up your stomach and reduce your food intake at mealtimes. But water is far from a miracle drug to lose weight.

7. Drink as much water as you can during a workout – It is widely believed that a workout increases chances of dehydration, so common myth says you need to increase water intake during exercise. But dehydration sets in only when you lose 2 percent of body weight. Do the math, and it is unlikely a normal workout requires increased water intake. Instead, ensure you are well-hydrated throughout the day, without over-doing it.

TIME AND STRESS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
TIME AND STRESS: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

Due to lack of realization of cosmic self, we are unable to “see” the uniting and consolidating global conscience and the dawn of spiritual renaissance. So, we keep on revolving around petty self, children, relatives, groups, parties, religions and so on!

We keep on “living” in insecurity and ignorance; and all evils associated. This is especially disastrous; if we are global leaders in different fields; and think and work; in a sectarian, prejudiced, and inimical manner!

Due to lack of growth from within; and failure to realize our transtemporal cosmic nature; we are unable to “live” in cosmic consciousness, though we preach; such “cosmic nature”!

It appears; that through NAMASMARAN; we can transcend the influence of metabolic, endocrine, autonomic and central nervous activities; and the realm of time! But this is not as easy as it appears; and often we have to go through ordeals that are difficult to face! We are thrown in turmoils and tribulations; even by minor inflictions!

AGING: AND TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
AGING: AND TOTAL STRESS MANAGEMENT: DR. SHRINIWAS
KASHALIKAR

Aging begins right from conception; but usually refers to the changes; after the age of forty to fifty years. Thus; aging means variable but distinct reduction in physical capacity and performance; and the insecurity, anxiety, worry, tension and depression resulting from the relative handicap.

What Total Stress Management?

Total Stress Management or Holistic health is an ongoing progress in perceptions, feelings and actions; with increasing accuracy, appropriateness, precision; and pleasure, power, prosperity and profundity. Perception, feelings and actions are also expressed by terms Cognition, Affect and Conation (Productivity and Creativity); respectively.
A] Cognition:
In short, cognition means processing [appraisal] of a huge variety of sensations impinging on us. We can appreciate the importance of this faculty if we consider the two important facts viz. 24 hours of the day and twelve months of the year, every one of us gets sensory inputs in the form of physical, instinctual, emotional and intellectual stimuli, which may be painful or pleasurable in the form of a variety of personal, familial, social, national and international events. Cognition involves sensing, interpreting, memorizing, questioning, pattern finding, analyzing, correlating, synthesizing, contemplating, understanding, appreciating and hypothesizing on the basis of this information input.
2] Affect:
Affect means the effect of the variety of stimuli which, may impinge on us. The affect is in a way, “sandwiched” between; cognition or perception of stimuli and the conation or response.

In general it involves the activity of various parts of nervous, endocrine and metabolic changes. The affect is usually experienced as a] confidence, enthusiasm, excitement, pleasure, happiness, love, attraction, patience, comfort etc. or b] sadness, jealousy, hatred, depression, inhibition, diffidence, loneliness, listlessness, impatience, discomfort etc.
3] Conation or action i.e. response (Productivity and creativity):
Conation is the response of an individual. This can be in the form of speaking, writing, singing, painting, dancing, fighting, and other interactions usually referred to as behavior.

In Hindu tradition this response was aimed at fulfillment of life and the precept for the life time activity was called PURUSHARTHA. There were four sequential components; of PURUSHARTHA viz.; DHARMA, ARTHA, KAAMA and MOKSHA.

DHARMA refers to accuracy in perception, affect and conation. This leads to ARTHA i.e. acquisition of material gains, followed by KAAMA i.e. satisfaction of the mundane desires, which are not against the principles of individual and universal blossoming) and MOKASHA i.e. liberation from all sorts of bondages.

In short; Total Stress Management or holistic health; refers to appropriate provision for the physical, instinctual, emotional, intellectual needs; and fulfillment and happiness arising from it.

We can read several books on Total Stress Management available on internet for free download and also read the articles on aging.
But in this article let us know about NAMASMARAN, which the core of Total Stress Management.

Namasmaran means; remembering the name of God, Guru, great souls; such as prophets and holy objects such as planets and stars. It may be remembered silently, loudly, along with music, dance, along with breathing, in group or alone, either with counting by rosary (called SMARANI or JAPAMALA) or without counting. The traditions vary from region to region and from religion to religion.

However the universal principle underlying NAMASMARAN is to reorient your physiological being with your true self. In fact while reorienting with true self you aim to establish and strengthen the bond or connection; between; your physiological being; with your true self. You aim at reunification with yourself!

Since remembering your true self is the pinnacle of or culmination of individual consciousness, and individual consciousness is the culmination of every activity in life, remembering any name of God or Guru (any symbol of your true self) is equivalent to opening the final common pathway for the individual consciousness associated with every possible activity to get funneled into or unified with objective or cosmic consciousness.

Thus NAMASMARAN is in fact the YOGA of YOGA in the sense that it is the culmination of consciousness associated with every possible procedure and technique in the yoga that you are familiar with. It is the YOGA of YOGA because it is the culmination of consciousness associated with all the activities in the universe, which it encompasses as well! It is YOGA of YOGA because everybody in the world irrespective of his/her tradition and the beliefs; would eventually, ultimately and naturally reach it it in the process of liberation. Even so called non believers also would not “miss” the “benefit of remembering the true self through one symbol or another”!

Just as NAMASMARAN is YOGA of YOGA it is meditation of meditation also! It is the natural and ultimate climax of every form of meditation.

These facts however have to be realized with persistent practice of NAMASMARAN and not blindly believed or blindly disbelieved with casual approach!

In short NAMASMARAN is super-bounty of cosmic consciousness for every individual to realize it (cosmic consciousness)! This is truly a super-bounty because a person, who experiences it, rises above mercenary, commercial, professional and charity planes; and manifests super-transactions in his or her life!

These are just few observations to give rough idea about what is NAMASMARAN; it is an ocean of bliss and its true meaning is beyond description!

AGING: A HOLISTIC VIEW: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR
AGING: A HOLISTIC VIEW: DR. SHRINIWAS KASHALIKAR

Even though aging begins right from conception; it usually refers to the changes; after the age of forty to fifty years.

By the word “aging” we generally think of; dysfunction, disability, dependence and helplessness. Aging seems to indicate only cumulative wear and tear; due to micro insults and time dependent programmed loss of structure and function. It seems to imply physical, psychological, intellectual and social incapacitation, thereby choking the charm, routing the romance, decaying dreams, annihilating aspirations and ending new beginnings. It seems to signal us to wind up everything and get ready to quit this world - the world; that we so much long to live in.

But is this entirely true?

It is true that there is reduction in the functioning of all the systems in the body listed below.
Matrix:
Blood:
Gastrointestinal tract (GIT):
The immune system:
Reproductive system:
Central nervous system and special senses:
Endocrine system:
Cardiovascular system:
Respiratory System:

Muscles:
Excretory system:

There is also; mental weakness, insecurity, reduction in income, and spiritual vigor is reduced (though this cannot be well defined). The courage, alertness, enthusiasm and other physical and mental faculties which are extremely important to undertake spiritual pursuit i.e. growth of consciousness; and are considerably diminished in old age.

However having said all this; the impression, which we get from the foregoing, is quite inadequate and therefore wrong, dangerously pessimistic and depressing.

The aging, as made out to be by merely observing certain physical or psychological changes; without realizing that there is a vast difference between our aging and aging of animals; creates fear about aging. As a result; instead of helping ourselves and others; we expedite the process of aging and its ill effects! We can refer to these conditions; with new terms viz. gerontophobia, and genrontoneurosis.

Let us realize that; while aging, a person accumulates not merely micro insults and injuries but simultaneously accumulates a variety of pleasant experiences (e.g. romance) and fulfillment, satisfaction, and contentment due to achievements in life! Even in the lesser fortunate ones; aging is associated with the happiness of having procreated, reared, pampered, and played with the children and grand children and the satisfaction living and not dying prematurely!

Further it has to be realized that while aging we gradually learn the inevitable nature of aging and death; and hence gradually learns to accept them uncomplainingly and gracefully.
Age is respected in Indian culture. Thus age brings (though this is not a universal truth) extra care, respect, services and comforts in preference to the younger lot.

Holistically speaking; let us clearly and definitely understand and appreciate without any ambiguity that aging is not merely becoming old, but actually growing and maturing! Aging is actually; the culmination of our passage (through the body) full of wonderful learning and blossoming experiences.

This becomes evident if we practice NAMASMARAN!
